Product Care Guide

Simple care instructions to keep your products looking their best

Thank you for choosing handmade.

Every Snoods4Dudes product is carefully made in Northumberland using thoughtfully selected fabrics, webbing and hardware. A little gentle care will help keep your dog’s neckwear looking its best for longer.

Please find the care instructions for your product below.

Fabric Collars

This guidance applies to Snoods4Dudes martingale, clip and fabric house collars.

For light dirt: Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

For a deeper clean: Hand wash gently in cool or lukewarm water using a small amount of mild detergent. Alternatively, place the collar inside a laundry bag or pillowcase and machine wash on a cool, gentle cycle. Avoid prolonged soaking, particularly of the metal hardware.

Rinse thoroughly, reshape while damp and lay flat to air dry.

Do not tumble dry, bleach or iron.

Allow the collar and hardware to dry completely before using it again. Regularly check the fabric, webbing, stitching, buckle, D-rings and adjustment hardware for signs of wear or damage.

Heritage Buckle Collars

The fabric and webbing section can be gently wiped clean using a damp cloth.

The Biothane strap can be cleaned separately with warm water and a soft cloth. For stubborn mud, use a small amount of mild soap and rinse thoroughly.

Avoid soaking the complete collar for long periods, particularly collars with nickel-plated hardware.

After wet or muddy walks:

  • Wipe away dirt and moisture

  • Dry the metal hardware with a soft cloth

  • Leave the collar open to air dry naturally

Do not machine wash, tumble dry, bleach or iron.

Seawater can affect some metal finishes. Rinse the collar with fresh water after coastal walks and dry the hardware thoroughly.

Regularly check the fabric, webbing, stitching, Biothane strap, buckle, adjustment holes and D-ring for signs of wear or damage.

Jersey Snoods

Your lightweight jersey snood can be:

  • Gently machine washed at 30°C

  • Washed with similar colours

  • Reshaped while damp

  • Air dried naturally

A gentle washing cycle or laundry bag is recommended.  Do not tumble dry, bleach or iron directly over labels.

Jersey snoods can also be dampened with cool water and used as a cooling aid during warm weather. Always supervise your dog while they are wearing one.  Remove the snood if it becomes warm, dry or uncomfortable.

Fleece Snoods

For best results:

  • Machine wash on a gentle 30°C cycle

  • Use mild detergent

  • Wash with similar colours

  • Reshape while damp

  • Leave to air dry naturally

Avoid fabric conditioner, as this may affect the softness and performance of the fabric.  Do not tumble dry, bleach or iron.

Hand-Knitted Snoods

Hand-knitted snoods require a little extra care.

  • Hand wash gently in cool water

  • Use a detergent suitable for wool or delicate fabrics

  • Do not rub, wring or twist

  • Gently press out excess water using a clean towel

  • Reshape and dry flat

Do not machine wash unless the individual product instructions state otherwise.

Do not tumble dry, bleach or hang while wet, as this may stretch the snood.

Rope Leads

For everyday dirt, wipe the rope and hardware with a damp cloth.

For a deeper clean:

  • Hand wash the rope gently in lukewarm water

  • Use a small amount of mild detergent

  • Avoid prolonged soaking of the metal hardware

  • Rinse thoroughly

  • Hang or lay flat to air dry naturally

Do not machine wash, tumble dry or bleach.

After beach walks, rinse away salt and sand with fresh water and dry the clip thoroughly.

Check the rope, stitching, join, clip and hardware regularly for wear.

General Safety Advice

All dog collars, snoods and leads should be checked regularly for signs of wear or damage.

Please discontinue use if you notice:

  • Fraying or damaged webbing

  • Loose or broken stitching

  • Cracks or damage to buckles

  • Bent or damaged metal hardware

  • Excessive stretching or deterioration

  • Damage caused by chewing

Snoods should be worn under supervision and removed if your dog becomes uncomfortable.

Martingale collars should be correctly fitted and should not be left on an unattended dog or used as an everyday house collar.

No dog accessory is indestructible. The lifespan of each product will depend on how frequently it is worn, your dog’s activity level and the conditions it is exposed to.
